MASTER PROGRAM

GENERAL INFO:

The duration of the master program is 2 academic years (4 semesters).

 

A total of 120 ECTS credits are required for the successful completion of the program.

1. a) 60 ECTS credits from the successful completion of courses (1st & 2nd Semester)
2. b) 30 ECTS from the drafting and submission of the research proposal and the collection of data for the master’s thesis (3rd semester)
3. c) 30 ECTS from the successful completion and public presentation of the master’s thesis (4th semester).

 

SPECIALIZATIONS:

The master program in Public Health/Primary Health Care/Health Services awards a degree in the field of “Public Health – Primary Health Care – Health Services” in the following specializations:

(a) Public Health and Primary Health Care

(b) Health Services

 

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

The language of the program is GREEK.

 Since all courses are taught in Greek, excellent knowledge of the Greek language is mandatory for completing the program.

The master thesis can be written in Greek or English.

Attendance in class is mandatory. Absence limit: 1/3 of class hours

Exams require physical presence of the students.

Part-time students are not accepted.

 

 

 

PROGRAM STRUCTURE:

The curriculum is structured as follows:

 

1^st SEMESTER

MPH101 Introduction to Public Health and Primary Health Care (6 ECTS)

MPH102 Epidemiology I (6 ECTS)

MPH103 Biostatistics I (6 ECTS)

MPH104 Research methodology (6 ECTS)

MPH105 Health services (6 ECTS)

 

2^nd SEMESTER

During the 2^nd semester, the students attend 3 courses, based on the specialization they chose at the end of the 1^st semester.

 

SPECIALIZATION:  PUBLIC HEALTH – PRIMARY HEALTH CARE:

MPH201 Infectious diseases Epidemiology (10 ECTS)

MPH202 Epidemiology II (10 ECTS)

MPH203 Biostatistics II (10 ECTS)

 

SPECIALIZATION: HEALTH SERVICES:

MPH204 Economic evaluation of health services (10 ECTS)

MPH205 Law and health services (10 ECTS)

MPH206 Administration of health services (10 ECTS)

 

*For a specialization to be offered, it must be selected by at least 30% of the students. The steering committee may adjust this percentage to ensure the smooth operation of the program.

 

3^rd SEMESTER

MPH301 Protocol writing and data collection for the master’s thesis (30 ECTS)

 

4^th SEMESTER

Preparation and writing of the master’s thesis (30 ECTS)

All students must defend their master thesis in a public presentation. Public presentations are held usually at the start of June of every academic year. Dates of the presentations are announced publicly.

Students, member of supervisory committees, advisory committees, examination committees, and any other interested can participate in the public presentation. The duration of the presentation of each student is total 15 minutes.

After the public presentation, the examination committee (three members) grade the written thesis and the presentation.

COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS:

To complete the program, the following is required:

a) completion of the five (5) required courses in the first semester and the three (3) required courses per specialization in the second semester (60 ECTS),

b) drafting of a research protocol and the collection of data for the master’s thesis during the third semester (30 ECTS)

c) successful completion, writing, and public presentation of the master’s thesis during the fourth semester (30 ECTS)
